An overnight drone strike struck near an Italian military base in Erbil in Iraq’s Kurdish region, according to Italian defense officials.

The incident occurred shortly after aerial threat alerts were issued in the area, allowing personnel stationed at the facility to move into shelters before the impact.

Military authorities said the strike destroyed a logistics vehicle and caused minor infrastructure damage, but no injuries were reported among personnel.

Approximately 300 Italian troops are stationed at the base as part of a mission to train Kurdish security forces.

Officials indicated that the strike may have involved a drone that deviated from its intended trajectory during ongoing regional hostilities.

The attack comes as tensions across the Middle East remain high following nearly two weeks of escalating military operations involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.
